Abstract

The reality is that the current educational system seldom encourages experiential (hands-on) learning. As a result, it has moulded more job seekers than job creators. Our world is hungry for hands-on problem-solvers and not job seekers with fancy degrees and no skills. Thus, we propose a new pedagogical approach, which will focus on “learning by doing”. We can only effectively solve our world’s problem by practically, creatively and innovatively applying our ideas and know-how. Education should inspire people to change themselves and the world by turning our planet’s challenges and crises into opportunities. Our world needs more vocational, technical, artisanal, business and social innovation schools. These schools have the potential to capacitate students to experiment with new ideas and create concrete solutions.

This is great. We are both for experiential learning, but we focused on a dual strategy of experiential learning and mobile learning. We do agree that there needs to be more hands on trainings, but ofcourse we should not discount that fact that there is still need for theories. The problem with our solution (since ours is similar) is that it would lengthen time in school since, let's say a teacher would only spend an hour of lecture to teach different methods of filtration, but it would take atleast 2 sessions to create a project for just filteration. So that's our challenge, how to do it faster. :)

And to answer the how screwed question, I would say, just a little screwed. No technical skills doesn't mean unemployable. Some people do really great with just theoretical knowledge, like expanding branches of science, computational skills, etc. It really depends.

We hope our vote helps. We'd love to hear your feedback for our solution as well, seeing that we might be doing work for the education sector in the future and early collaborations are always ideal. :)

Good luck! And we hope we can be lucky enough to be with you in the finals if ever you win a spot.
