Shaped by Art

Art is everywhere: in the streets, our homes, in the park, school, city cafes, country yards… in every corner, wherever you choose to find it. And it is beautiful. And inspiring. It is the most nutritious food for the soul.

I am sure that most of you had the pleasure of spending hours creating masterpieces when you were in kindergarten or primary school, painting the next ‘Mona Lisa’ or singing carols; playing pretend games, doing handicrafts, writing the most amazing, unbelievable stories… Creative work does its best to satisfy our cravings, to give us the pleasure of expressing, and at the same time, entertaining ourselves, and we need more and more, so we begin to seek it vigorously.

Whether one is more of a left or a right-brain person, or maybe more of a cat than a dog person, what we all have in common, dare I say, is that everyone has had an encounter with a piece of art that has affected them somehow. So, since art is all around us, one must be influenced by it one way or another. One feels it and, in a way, one is molded into it. Molded as in, that particular piece becomes a part of you, it spoke to you in a language that only you could understand. Maybe motivated you to be a better person, or to try something you've never tried before. Gave you some courage, or solace… A piece of music, maybe? A show you once saw in the theater. A film? A photograph, or an exhibition you went to. Your favorite book, or a poem. There must be something in that particular song that you like so much. What makes it tick in your heart and why?

Have you ever thought about the reason as to why you were so drawn to that painting that has now become your favorite? Did you see a part of yourself in it? Think! Amongst the many things that have impacted you in life so far, what piece of art moved you deeply?
