Day #1 A Beautiful Connection...

by C:F Team on 21st September, 2013 at 8:21 AM CEST

As long as we are together we are a snowball. And when the snowball is coming it’s really something powerful – Andreja Kodrin, C:F President

The special moment has come. After many months of preparation, after many rounds of competing and after multiple local C:F events, the Challenge:Future Summit 2013 started officially today in Maribor. With all participants gathered together at the University of Maribor, coming from 35 countries, the most awaited event of the year started with opening words from CF President, Andreja Kodrin and Daniel Rebolj, Rector of University of Maribor.

There is no they. It's only us was one of the main key points made by Andreja.

Day 1 was DISCOVERING day! The participants got the chance to meet each other through games, social activities and various sessions, but also to discover more about themselves. Violeta Bulc, founder of InCo Movements in Slovenia, speaker at the summit invited the participants to think on involution, defined as the inner part of the human soul to the self.

Later on, Lai Hock, founder of a “Ground Up” Initiative Singapore shared his personal story on how he started his initiative, but also about his 4 years long backpack journey through 5 continents constantly questioning Who am I?  What am I doing? What does it actually mean to spend time being with yourself? These were the very questions that the participants had to ask themselves, to contemplate and to start thinking. Today in the 21st century, in these hectic times full of misery and superfast lifestyle, how big is the challenge to truly know yourself? But that was exactly one of the challenges of the day, to go deeper and start your own inner journey; the journey through to unravel the intrusive thought.

Circle of happiness

Sustainability was also hot topic for the day. Nadya Zhexembayeva, C:F Vice president reflected on how we are getting tired of the word itself and that actually something new is going on! From green to smart; are “resourcefulness”, “infinity” or “overfished ocean strategy” to replace “sustainable”?

“When you think of sustainability, it’s going to take first the coordination of ants, secondly the scientific vision of Galileo and thirdly the conviction and compassion of Gandhi,” said Lai Hock Tay in one of his sessions.

A vow that each participant took on day #1

In the evening, the official grand opening of the Challenge:Future Summit 2013 & Global Jumpstart took place in hotel Habakuk and was hosted by Terme Maribor. The president of Slovenia, Borut Pahor was represented by a Future Challenger, Siddharth Rajgopalan.

Either you are an educator, a student or a change-maker, you all have one common point – YOU CARE
(from the president’s speech)

Stay tuned for fresh updates!
