Ready for the New C:F Competitions? Today is the day!

At the CEEMAN Annual Conference in South Africa at this very moment, the new themes of the competitions are announced. Check out @challengefuture and @CEEMANNetwork for hot updates.

As we already mentioned last week, our C:F member Samuel Duru from Nigeria (currently living in South Africa) will speak about “Innovations to Support the Educational Process” focusing on innovative ways of enhancing learning, outside of the traditional classroom setting, pointing Challenge:Future as an examples that truly fits the topic. Keep an eye on him!

And now, fireworks! Under the umbrella of "Impact Now", the new C:F Competitions will be:

A.T. Kearney and Challenge:Future Joint Initiative

COMPETITION TITLE: Eastern Europe emerging

COMPETITION THEME:  The Future of Work

Competition brief:

Currently, companies in European emerging countries are relying heavily on cost leadership or on local control as large diversified, resource based conglomerates. However, both strategies can be easily beaten by Western companies with higher productivity, companies from Asian emerging countries that have lower factor and energy cost, and by international specialized companies. The education system is not focused on meeting the future demand and delivering talents that can tackle this issue. Moreover, because of low standard of living in terms of remuneration and quality, focus on cost leadership and limited knowledge based business opportunities, European emerging countries are challenged by young talents moving to more attractive places (brain drain). The outlook is dark, for companies and for jobs. Eastern Europe is submerging.

What can companies from emerging Europe do to escape the bind between the more productive West and more cost efficient East? What should they focus on to fight off the international competition and develop a strong advantage? How can the education system help to achieve that goal, and what can be done to retain and utilize the top quality talent? What would these future companies and jobs in them be like? What are the jobs of the Future Eastern Europe emerged? What is the Future of Work?

Youth in Action, CEEMAN, UN PRME Anti-Poverty Working Group and Challenge:Future Joint Initiative

COMPETITION THEME: Fighting Poverty By Fighting Unemployment

Competition brief:

A billion people still go to bed hungry. A child dies because of starvation every 6 seconds. Despite positive trends in alleviating poverty and achieving one of the main Millennium Development Goals, there are still 2.6 billion people who live with less than $2 per day. What is the most sustainable solution for this big challenge? The answer is Jobs. They are bringing the income and income leads to financial independency, dignity and personal freedom.  However, unemployment levels have been reaching new peaks in almost every country, hitting youth particularly hard.

The global youth unemployment rate is historically high, 13.6 per cent in 2011 on global level and 22,4 per cent in European Union in June 2012. When young people with education are unable to find employment, frustrations build and brain drain takes off. However, next decade will be even more challenging for youth generation. It is expected that more than 1,2 billion young people will enter labor market in the next 10 years while only 300 million jobs await. Well, that’s the challenge, isn’t it? Growing concern about poverty and social exclusion prompts us to question what can we do to take action. Be part of the largest youth movement against poverty! Can we invest our time and resources to alleviate poverty through education and jobs creation?

More details coming soon. Meantime, stretch your mind and be ready for another thrilling Challenge:Future ride!
