Evolution BaBy 2011

by C:F Team on 20th December, 2010 at 12:17 PM CEST

Last year, thousands of young bright minds from nearly 190 countries came together to re-invent the future of connecting. This year, we are re-inventing ourselves and turning up the heat. Drum roll, please: behold the new level of challenge!

For the 2011 Competition, we invite you to design your own vision of the future that works for all - and then take the first step to bringing that vision into reality. In the process, you are challenged to connect with an inspiring Person of your choice (dream big!) and conduct an interview about his or her vision and how to make the dreams come true. Yes, we are dead serious.

Creative thinking. Deep dialogue. Entrepreneurship. Vision. Collaboration. Innovation. Action. A remarkable opportunity to be among the very few to participate in the life-changing Challenge:Future Summit 2012. A Grand Prize of 20.000 EUR. And a chance to visit Hollywood! This is Challenge:Future 2011. And this is how it will work.

On February 23, 2011, the exact challenge theme, rules, and resources will be announced. This very moment, the Challenge:Future Advisory Board 2010-11 is working hard on designing every little detail, to make sure it is provocative yet valuable. That means that until February 23rd, 2011, you have just enough time to warm up your mind, decide who is in your team (teams of one to three people are allowed to compete, all between ages 18 and 30, but at least one of them must be a student), and start imagining and designing.

First Round: DESIGN THE FUTURE (February 23, 2011 – March 30, 2011)

In the first round of the Competition, your job is to go “out of the mind” to envision the future. Since you are designing the future that works for all, connecting to others is a must: at least five interviews of complete strangers will be demanded of you, so that you can integrate visions of others into your own. Good research and great inspiration are simply mandatory. Aside a presentation of your vision, we will ask you to outline a plan, and to get the tools, building blocks, and raw materials ready for the next big challenge – one great, but nearly-impossible-to-get interview with a person of your choice. Who do you want to interview and why? How can this person add to your own vision and bring it to the next level? How will you get to that person? What do you want to ask? Why? Your Power Point submission will be judged by the Challenge:Future community and expert panel of judges between March 31sand April 14, 2011. We will announce the semi-finalists on April 20, 2011.

Second Round (Semi-Finals): ENGAGE WITH THE FUTURE (April 21, 2011 – June 15, 2011)

Among the most important lessons of 2009-10 Challenge:Future Competition is the power of youth’ questions. A powerful question leads to a powerful dialogue – an opportunity to connect, engage, and discover new possibilities and new solutions. Therefore, the second round marks the transition from designing into engaging with the future. Your job is to engage with and interview an inspiring person of your choice – and based on your interview, your research, and your own vision of the future developed during the First Round, create a video that is moving, daring, visionary, and inspiring. Imagine that you have a chance to move the entire world with your video. What do you want them to see, hear, and experience? What questions do you want them to explore? What answers do you want them to discover? What vision of the future do you want them to imagine? What ideas and actions should be sparked with that vision? We dare you to dream big and get very creative. Who is the most unlikely and, at the same time, the most desired person you can connect to and create meaningful dialogue with? How can you engage with a community and get help for making it happen? What about video production and all technical support? Your submission will be judged by the Challenge:Future community and expert panel of judges between June 16 and July 21, 2011. On August 1, 2011 - the teams that will advance to Finals will be announced. And (prepare to jump off your seats): ONE WINNER, the author of the best, the most amazing and inspiring video will have a chance to travel to Hollywood for an experience of a life time!

Third Round (Finals): FIRST STEP 2 THE FUTURE (August 2, 2011 – November 20, 2011)

Now, when the vision of the future is created, it is time to take the first step towards making it a reality. Creativity, ingenuity, and impact all matter here – so that you can connect the achievements and discoveries of the First and Second Rounds of the Competition… but we are giving away too much of the details here way too early. Your submission will be judged by the Challenge:Future community and judges between November 21 and December 20 2011. Top Five Teams – THE GRAND PRIZE CONTENDERS - will be announced on January 6 2012 – earning another BIG AWARD: a right to participate in the Challenge:Future Summit 2012 with an all-expense-paid trip for the entire team.

Grand Winners Selected: SUMMIT 2012 (March 2012)

And so we come to the end of the Competition – the big culmination. With the best of Challenge:Future community in one place, our powerful think-tank will come together to share a profound experience of dialogue, innovation, and action. And yes, the five GRAND PRIZE CONTENDERS will be able to present their work live before the panel of grand judges and win the GRAND AWARD of 20.000 EUR.

Excited? Then start stretching and warming up your innovation and collaboration muscles – and make sure to be ready to sprint on February 23 2011! And as always – we have many surprises up our sleeves and at least eleven other ways to come to the Summit. Time to get ready!

@Ioan - it is the end of 2011 competition only. According to our strategic plan the competition 2012 will be announced already on the Summit (March 2012) and such practise should become traditional (from Summit to Summit)...

I really like the idea this year! It is coherent theme, with specific vision and clear direction. The competition this years offers additional opportunities such as visit to Hollywood and the 1st prize is a dissent motivation as well! I like that you limited the teams up to 3 people, because my experience showed that groups with 4 or more people are difficult to coordinate and come up with a single output.
This is a great step towards the C:F future and I am sure it is going to be another big success!!

Really interesting plot, but I have one disagreement. We have a nice good-working team consisting of 4 people. According to a plan we have to decide, who must be 'switched off' from a game, but it's quite difficult to choose, because each of us has a big experience in theirs field, and as last year shows - it was nice mix of minds. What can we do with this issue? =)

and now it is no more just a global competition, yes we are dead serious... :-)

get ready to be leader, self to society to solar

the action with cent per cent heart and mind dis-cover the vision within... and to find the vision also is a very best part of life...

its about to shake hand directly with the source of energy within...

go ahead guns...

i have a question...

why someone should share his/her vision with challenge:future???

i trust our idea bank...

Aha, the first questions are coming in...Yes, the competition is very different this year - and many changes. You can compete alone, or with a team - but no more than three people per team...the theme is not yet announced - so you need to get ready, but stay open to the precise topic, rules, and regulations...and many more changes and surprises along the way...

None of the changes is an accident - we spent a long time designing a completely new challenge that will allow all of us to prepare to the fast-changing unpredictable world. So, yes, @Anton, I understand the dilemma with the fourth team member - so just like in real life, you would have to find a way to adapt - have two teams, or go with four, or.... I am sure you will find the best way to adapt :) And @Dharmesh - it will be your challenge to convince a person to share a vision with the world and C:F community - to find the right way to persuade that it is worthy of his or her time… Good luck, all!
