Tip of the Week #6: Lila says toothbrushing is bad!

by Nadya Zhexembayeva on 9th November, 2010 at 3:37 PM CEST

Forget conventional wisdom. Brushing your teeth can be bad! Really bad…for the environment that is. For sure this doesn’t mean you should stop brushing your teeth. But being mindfull of the impact of your clean teeth routine can do lots of magic for you and the planet.

Now, think of the last time you brushed your teeth. (Our hopeful hint: this morning!) How much water did you use for the entire process? And how much did you actually need? By leaving the water running when you do your oral hygiene, you can waste up to 10 liters of water every time. Multiply it by the number of people that do this daily, at least two times a day and you get the big picture of the waste.

Turning off the tap while you don’t need the water can be helpful but still we waste some of it. Ok, I don’t say not to use water at all. There is a solution to this!  And who else to know better than Lila, our gorgeous young C:F fan.

Next time you meet your toothbrush, try to remember what Lila just showed you. Using 200 ml or 10 liters makes no difference for your oral hygiene but it is a huge difference for our environment, for the next generations that might not have water to brush their teeth with.

very sweet little baby is back now.... well said lila...

actually we faced water crisis earlier in our city Rajkot (very badly),
we use to buy water and they transport us (each n every one were buying) through rickshaw or tractor, so we learnt to save water....

highly impressed with simple message, this attitude should be in our (all of us) life before we really face water issue at our home... some things better not to experience.. :)

I have to be honest, I used to be an offender, too...converted only rather recently, a few years ago...but now it became a habbit - for the entire family. The funny thing is when we were shooting the video, Lila kept turning the water off immediately, as it is a habbit. And I had to convince her not to do that at least once, for the story :). It takes some time, but then it sticks, and becomes a habbit...that is true for many things in life!
